Kimberley flooding 2023 - Tours not affected

Update for passengers

The Great Northern Highway is currently drawing much attention due to the devastating record-level flooding which has impacted the area west of Wilare Bridge, spanning 3km.  The Fitzroy Bridge has collapsed and the houses inundated with water.  Our condolences go to the locals who have been affected; we are thinking of them at this difficult time.

For those concerned about booking a Kimberley tour with us or about whether their tour will go ahead in the 2023 season, please read the following:

Our Kimberley tour itineraries take the Gibb River Road, not the Great Northern Highway.  The Gibb River Road is currently affected by flooding which is typical for this time of year; it is the wet season.

Similar to this event, in March 2011, the Kimberley received more than its average rainfall which, caused extensive flood damage to infrastructure across the Fitzroy, Ord and Pentecost River catchments areas.

Tours still ran in April and so we do not expect anything less this time around.

Regarding the Great Northern Highway, Mainroads WA are already accessing the damage and are making a plan to build temporary infrastructure to allow road access from Broome along the Great Northern Highway, which they estimate will take 8 weeks until completion.
